Following a recent press release from the International Federation of Musicians (FIM) and the MU, Union officials held a demo outside the audition studio in London.
Horace Trubridge, along with Officers and Officials from the London and East / South East regional teams distributed leaflets and entered into dialogue with those attending the auditions to make them aware of the stance the OSB management were taking towards their Musicians.
The auditions took place at ‘Peregrines Pianos’ on Grays Inn Road over the 16 – 18 May before moving to New York.
Dave Webster, London Region Senior Organiser said: “it was good to be able to show solidarity for the musicians in Brazil who, despite a statement from the management to the contrary, have been presented with unreasonable terms and a fait accompli regarding their jobs. Musicians attending the auditions seemed to be aware of the boycott despite traveling from outside the UK to attend. Should some auditionees be successful they will have to make the decision whether or not to work for a Management where dialogue with Unions and respect for Musicians’ livelihoods has been bought into question on an international level.”
Richard Watson, London Regional Committee Chair, also attended.
