Senior Technician LX
Job Summary
Northern Stage is seeking a Senior Technician with an LX bias to operate in the running of our Technical and Production Department.Job Description
This Senior Technician role will work closely with the Technical and Production Team to deliver a range of projects including Northern Stages own Productions and Co-productions, Visiting Company Productions, and a range of commercial and hire events. The role will be responsible for focusing on the LX aspects of visiting company and hire needs, and our own productions and co-productions in support of the Chief Technician. This role will also include the organisation and performance of equipment and venue maintenance. Northern Stage champions the Carbon Literacy Project and Theatre Green Book; our Senior Technician will actively look for solutions to support the technical department and Northern stage be greener in production.
Northern Stage is dedicated to the development of backstage skills locally and runs various activities to support this. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver support to our Participation Department during these activities, including speaking directly to participants about their role and skills.
Due to the nature of the industry working hours will be flexible and will include evening and weekend work.
Job Requirements
Essential
- Knowledge and experience of contemporary theatre practice and working effectively within the theatre production process.
- Evidenced track record as a professional LX technician.
- Experience of programming EOS to an advanced Level.
- Experience of drafting LX plans using CAD software.
- Experience of leading a technical crew on fit ups and get outs.
Experience of working with touring show tech specs and riders.
Desirable
- Knowledge and experience of lighting design and theory
- Experience of flying, rigging Theatrical Equipment.
- Experience of OSC/midi/networking for LX
- Knowledge and experience of production LX practice including LED drivers and wireless DMX.
- Experience of managing and delivering training.
- Experience of other CAD programmes, such as AutoCAD and Sketchup.
- Experience of working effectively within budgets.
- A full driving license.
Job Responsibilities
Work with creative teams and other members of the Technical Team to realise technical requirements of productions within allocated resources
Attend technical rehearsals, plot and operate technical equipment safely and competently as needed to realise the artistic vision of productions
Assist in the co-ordination, fit up and operation of Northern Stage productions being toured or transferred to other venues
Provide excellent customer service and technical support to visiting companies and hires, assisting with technical requirements, and advising where required
Deputise for the Chief Technician as needed, and support the administration of the department
Provide a high level of skill in the day-to-day operations of the technical team
Plan and undertake Maintenance on Production Equipment
Devise and deliver of training/learning programmes for the Technical Department
Task manage and supervise casual and freelance personnel
