Children’s Capital of Culture are planning to deliver a brand-new borough-wide heritage project that will recruit 25 x 16-to-25-year-olds to become Heritage Producers. We are now seeking an experienced, organised and committed Project Manager to help ensure the successful delivery of this project.

Job Description

In 2025 Rotherham is the world’s first Children’s Capital of Culture, designed and delivered by local children and young people aged 0-to-25. This ambitious initiative is a game changer for the borough that will create positive and long-lasting change for communities across Rotherham.

Children’s Capital of Culture have applied to the National Heritage Lottery Fund (NLHF) to deliver a brand-new borough-wide heritage project: You’re Not From New York City, You’re From Rov’rum.

This project will recruit 25 x 16-to-25-year-olds to become ‘Heritage Producers’. Our Heritage Producers will work across each of Rotherham’s 25 wards to plan and run events and activities that celebrate and document local communities’ culture, stories and heritage.

The stories that are shared and creative outputs that are produced will:

  • be accessioned into the Rotherham Archives, so they can be preserved and enjoyed for generations to come
  • influence a major new creative commission, which will tour across the borough in January 2026
  • be celebrated by ward-based outputs designed and delivered by each Heritage Producer. This will range from creating tapestries, murals, podcasts and publications, to running open mics, celebration events, or community meals!

Children’s Capital of Culture are now seeking an experienced, organised and committed Project Manager to join our creative and passionate team.

The Project Manager will have a key role in delivering You’re Not From New York City, You’re From Rov’rum.

Do you have experience of delivering quality skills and talent development project for young people, and are passionate about co-production and youth voice? Are you an experienced and organised project manager, able to nurture positive working relationships with diverse different partners? Are you excited about being part of a creative and committed staff team that’s making amazing things happen in Rotherham? Then we would like to hear from you!

  • Knowledge and experience of planning and delivering successful employability and/or skills and talent development projects for young people
  • Knowledge and experience of working with a diverse range of children, young people and adults
  • Knowledge and experience of working effectively with a wide range of partners
  • Knowledge and experience of planning and delivering creative, cultural or community events and festivals
  • Knowledge and experience of current safeguarding requirements, as well as data protection, health and safety, and other relevant requirements
  • Experience of managing budgets
  • Experience of contributing to evaluation reports
  • Experience of managing staff

Job Responsibilities

The Project Manager will have a key role in delivering the You’re Not From New York City, You’re From Rov’rum project. They will:

  • Support the 25 Heritage Producers to run creative activities that collect and celebrate local people’s stories, histories, and cultures; this will include planning and delivering bimonthly training sessions for the full Heritage Producer cohort, as well as offering a consistent point of contact for each Heritage Producer.
  • Collaborate with wider partners to ensure the project’s safe and successful delivery, including: the Rotherham Archives and Local Studies team; 25 community host organisations who are linking the Heritage Producers to the venues and organisations within their ward; and the creative team who are delivering the large-scale creative commission that will debut in January 2026.
  • Lead on overall coordination and management of the project, including managing the risk register, processing expenditure, and contributing to evaluation and reports
