The Staffordshire Regiment Museum Trust is seeking to appoint a new Museum Director
About us: The Staffordshire Regiment Museum tells the story of the Midlands’ soldier from the Regiment’s inception in 1705, to Army service today in The Mercian Regiment. Our thousands of visitors annually can see our historic collections, investigate our archive, are inspired by the important stories told, and are entertained and educated by dedicated volunteers. The Museum comprises a main museum building, a significant archive, a collection of over 14,000 items, a remarkable recreation of a First World War trench, and numerous outdoor exhibits on a large site. Since 2022, the Museum has seen its visitor numbers and income grow and it is now on the cusp of a major project, to rebuild the museum building and reconfigure the entire collection to better tell our soldiers’ stories. The Board of Trustees is seeking a skilled leader to sustain the Museum’s growth and play a major role in its redevelopment. The Board of Trustees intend that the Museum will be the principal Military Museum of the Midlands. Working with the trustees and leading the staff and volunteers, you will develop the Museum as a major cultural heritage asset for the region.
About You We seek to appoint a person with broad skills in museum or attraction management, and with expertise in the management of collections and archives. The individual will be adept at maximising the Museum’s income and experience of project management is very desirable. The individual will be confident in managing and developing the workforce, which includes a significant number of volunteers without whom the Museum could not function as effectively as it does. Good communication skills and being comfortable with public engagement is essential. The individual must be passionate about Britain’s heritage and especially the role played by its Army.
