Job Summary

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Marketing Manager to join our Communications team on a permanent basis, working across our Public Programmes, Artist Development and Touring.

Job Description

The Marketing Manager will play a vital role in the Communications Team, leading on marketing campaigns for new work produced by The Place – from exploring audience development opportunities; to establishing the visual identity of productions and aligning messaging with the brand; ultimately attracting audiences to the venue and on national and international tours.

They will work with independent artists at different stages in their careers to profile Artist Development opportunities, the WorkPlace Artists programme and new work produced by The Place.

They will work closely with the rest of the Communications team on strategic projects that maximise opportunities to grow the reach, profile and loyalty for The Place in line with our brand values – for example, leading on the newsletter engagement strategy.

They will also work closely with our Projects Producers and Senior Producer in the Producing & Touring team, and with independent producers and creative freelancers, nurturing existing, and developing new relationships, with venues and partners of varying shapes and sizes across the UK and internationally.

The salary for this position is £32,960 per annum.

This is an open-ended permanent contract. This is a full-time position (equivalent to 40 hours per week). These hours are inclusive of a one-hour paid lunch break each day. Your hours of work will be agreed with the line manager.

Whilst in the six-month probationary period the notice period will be two weeks. Once this period is successfully completed the post holder will be confirmed in the post and the notice period will be eight weeks.

Job Requirements

KNOWLEDGE

  • Good understanding of marketing strategies and approaches for promoting live events.

SKILLS

  • Budget planning and management (adaptable to circumstances when needed).
  • Excellent IT literacy skills, including Microsoft Office 365, website content management systems, mail merge systems (e.g. DotDigital, MailChimp, etc.), ticketing systems and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems (e.g. Spektrix, Tessitura, etc.), and Content Management Systems (CMS) (e.g. Craft, WordPress, etc.).

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience of managing marketing campaigns and delivery for theatre and/or dance (including mixed media, fill funnel marketing campaigns across print, digital, organic and paid socials, advertising, etc.).
  • Experience working across different projects simultaneously, balancing tasks and relationships with multiple artists.

ATTRIBUTES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

  • Good communication and written English, including copywriting skills for different mediums.

Job Responsibilities

Producing and Touring

  • Develop and manage marketing budgets for touring productions
  • Build strong relationships with artists to ensure creative vision and audience intentions are woven into communications plans
  • Regularly review marketing timelines, adapting to external factors like fundraising timeline, touring venues
  • Lead the planning and delivery of marketing campaigns for The Place productions, reporting to the Head of Marketing: Public Programmes, and with support from freelance marketeers when required/agreed
  • Write and edit copy for promotional material, including print, posters, advertisements, email, webpages, online posts and videos

Artist Development

  • Create marketing campaigns and develop/manage marketing budgets for Artist Development projects, regularly reviewing the status of planned activity with the AD Producer

Audience Evaluation

  • Evaluate marketing campaigns across Producing & Touring and Artist Development, in line with agreed KPIs to inform future campaigns
