Job Summary

We are looking for an Event Manager (Multi-Artform) to join our Producing & Event Management team on a full-time, permanent basis. Salary: £38,855 per year, depending on skills and experience

Job Description

This role is responsible for the advancing, coordination, delivery and reconciliation of allocated events across all artforms.

The majority of Southbank Centre Artistic Events take place Tuesday to Sunday and the post-holder should expect to work regular evenings and on approximately three weekends out of five.

No one day as an Event Manager is the same, and we’re proud to work with some of the biggest names in the arts, from our renowned resident orchestras to producing the internationally acclaimed London Literature Festival and the longest running curator-led festival in the world, Meltdown Festival.

Recently our Event Management team have worked with Chaka Khan, Ru Paul, Paul McCartney, Grace Jones, Erykah Badu, Christine & The Queens, Ai Weiwei, Hot Chip, Peaches, Jarvis Cocker, Chilly Gonzalez, Anoushka Shankar & family, Sun Ra Arkestra, Akala, Margaret Atwood, PJ Harvey, Stewart Lee, Damon Albarn, James Acaster & Ed Gamble, Holly Blakey & Jeremy Deller, Sally Rooney and Stormzy to name but a few.

Role objectives

  • Advance and deliver a range of diverse and dynamic artistic events in conjunction with the Producing and Programming teams to deliver the Southbank Centre’s (SC) artistic programme to an international standard.
  • To be the main point of contact for logistics for performances.
  • Manage event schedules, contracts, budgets, payments, travel, hotels, internal transport, riders, hires, visas, FEU, artist liaison, merchandise, security, recordings and the scheduling of all event associated rehearsals, sound-checks, signings and receptions.
  • Communicate the operational needs of assigned events to all necessary and related internal departments through the effective administration of Artifax, Southbank Centre’s venue management system, and agreed operational procedures.
  • Undertake event duty for allocated shows and projects and associated ancillary activity as required.
  • Be committed to providing the warmest welcome and highest level of customer service.

Job Requirements

  • Experience of working in event management across the performing art forms; managing multiple complex events through all stages of planning and delivery
  • Has professional experience of working with artists, companies, partners and promoters in the successful delivery of events.
  • A keen interest in and professional knowledge of one or more of the Music and Performance artforms Southbank Centre presents (Contemporary Music, Performance & Dance, Literature, Festival & Public Programming)
  • Is able to communicate effectively in a clear, positive and helpful manner and confident in their ability establish and maintain positive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  • Has a flexible, proactive and collaborative approach, including the ability to work irregular hours as required by event work, including evenings and weekends
  • Demonstrable experience of managing event budgets
  • Is well organised, with demonstrable administration, event management

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure that spaces are prepared and presented in accordance with the information provided on Artifax.
  • Ensure pre- and post- performance receptions, signings and events (sponsors, promoters, artists etc) are planned and managed efficiently.
  • Attend and oversee rehearsals, soundchecks and events at SC venues:
    • to ensure that artists, promoters/management, and partners feel welcomed and supported;
    • to work closely with colleagues to problem solve and address any queries which may arise;
    • with the aim of maximising the artist, promoter and visitor experience at all times.
  • Prepare and issue contracts for all allocated projects and events in conjunction with the Producer/Programmer and ensure that these are confirmed, communicated, and understood by relevant parties before events are put on sale.
  • Support all Marketing on-sale deadlines and monitor box office sales during pre-production and communicate all branding requests.
