About the speaker

Catherine Pickstock is the Norris-Hulse Professor of Divinity at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Emmanuel College, Cambridge. She is the author of several books in philosophical theology, the most recent being Aspects of Truth (2021). She is currently the recipient of a Leverhulme Research Fellowship for a project entitled Platonic Poetics.

A note from the speaker

Because all being is life, it is always exceeding itself, always going beyond itself in order to be itself. In this way, life is already poetry. But life surpasses life in human beings, as conscious self-expression. In this way, poetry completes life; to live humanly is to live poetically.  And to live poetically is to participate in the Trinitarian generation of image and its fulfilment as intellect or spirit.
