What is it?
Traditional Irish Set Dancing. Beginners very welcome. Partner not required. Suitable for all ages. Get fit, have fun, make friends!
Classes are held in the Kennedy Hall with access from the back of the building in Murray Mews.
Learn the traditional Irish Set Dances from across all the counties of Ireland. Full instructions given. Learn at your own pace. All welcome. A great way to get fit, have fun and make new friends. Irish Set Dancing is group dancing, usually with four couples, arranged in a square. Most dances have five or six parts. Footwork will be demonstrated and can be basic or more advanced. Dance to reels, jigs, hornpipes, polkas and slides. There are over one hundred different Irish Set Dances. Learn the styles from each county such as the polka style from Kerry or the reel style from Clare. Dances come from all across Ireland from the Fermanagh Set in the North, the Boyne Set in the East, the Skibbereen Set in the South and the Kilfenora Set in the West. Each dance has its own history. Our aim is to preserve and promote the traditional dances of Ireland handed down through the generations.
Wear casual clothes and comfortable shoes.
