Hot on the heels of their very successful ScripTease events, LynchPin Productions Theatre Company is returning to The Electric Theatre with a fully staged production of a play that the Daily Telegraph describes as “almost unbearably moving.” Written by Deborah Brevoort, ‘The Women of Lockerbie’ is a fictionalised account of how the women of a small Scottish town take charge of their own grieving after the terrorist attack in December 1988 which brought down Pan Am flight 103. With 270 fatalities, including passengers, crew and locals, the area was irretrievably changed and the incident still features in the news today.

Seven years after the bombing, American couple Maddie and Bill visit the town for the first time in a bid to finally put the grief of the past behind them. They meet the women of Lockerbie who are battling with the US Government to allow them to wash the 11,000 items of clothing which belonged to the victims and return them to the victims’ families. At midnight on the 21st December 1995, their stories entwine.
Inspired by true events and written in the style of a Greek Tragedy this finely-tuned play lays bare the range of emotions felt by ordinary people rocked by the disaster. Through their actions, the women of Lockerbie are determined that love must triumph over hate.

After its New York premiere in 2003, the play has been received not just in America but around the globe in theatres as far flung as Japan, Australia and all over Europe. Running from 18th -21st May at The Electric Theatre, Guildford, this production consolidates the best of local professional talent and is a rare opportunity to see such a powerful piece of work.

After the 90 minute play on the 19th and 20th May there will be two talkback sessions entitled ‘Staging Tragedy: Form’ and ‘Surviving Tragedy: Forgiveness’. Playwright Deborah Brevoort, visiting from America specifically to support the production, is very excited about both the project and talkbacks enthusing “I’m delighted that I will be able to attend the Lynchpin production of The Women of Lockerbie. I am happy that The Forgiveness Project, an organization that is working to promote a different kind of collective response to violence, will be taking part in the ‘Surviving Tragedy’ talkback. I am excited by the prospect of theatre in general, and The Women of Lockerbie in particular, to contribute to this important dialogue.”

Lynchpin Productions is delighted to be offering a very special ticket price of £11 for anyone booking before May 1st (£14/£12 Concession thereafter) and, for any ticket holders, the opportunity to attend the two very special talkback sessions.
